So what is this blog all about?

I’m a communications professional in Southeastern Michigan, who was laid off in late 2008 for nearly a year.

Fortunately, I landed work in Sept. 2009 with  GreenPath Debt Solutions as their communications and public relations manager. A great non-profit, headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan, providing financial education like housing and bankruptcy counseling and helping to repay credit card debt. The goal is indeed to help people out of debt AND learn how to manage their money better.

While I was laid-off, I did alot of research on how I could get ahead of the competition through social media opportunities, adaptive resumes, networking opportunities and more.

Once I was hired, I wanted to share what I learned with those out there who are still looking.  So here I am, blogging thoughts, ideas, articles, surveys and more to help out those looking for work or support in this double digit unemployment world!

Am I an expert in this field? Absolutely not! But I feel I’ve compiled quite a bit of information along the way. Some of it worked for me, some of it didn’t, but it is important to share what we know!

On my volunteer side, I served as president of Opportunity: Grosse Ile, a volunteer marketing group made up of local residents, business owners and government officials. Our main goal is to promote Grosse Ile to prospective homebuyers shopping in SE Michigan, while involving existing residents in new projects and programs in our downriver community .

Also, I’ve volunteered for the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Alliance in Grosse Ile, Michigan.

Finally, I am newsletter editor (and just wrapped up as senior warden for the second year) for Saint James Episcopal Church in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Our newsletter, “The Chronicle,” has been recognized four times for overall excellence by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan.

Now come along with me, let’s learn together and do something good!
